Amos G. “Butch” Kettlewell passed away May 9, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Butch was born October 7, 1938, at his boyhood home in Stephens City, Virginia, son of the late Amos O. and Gertrude Vogelpohl Kettlewell. He graduated from James Wood High. He served in the Air National Guard. He was employed with Schenck Food Company for 36 years and raised beef cattle and hogs for many years. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, the Elk Foundation, the Mountaineer Hunt Club, and former member of the James Wood Athletic Foundation. He also was a volunteer with the Reynolds Store Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Butch loved to volunteer helping others. He also loved gardening, wood working and especially hunting.
Butch married Patricia Ann Hite November 27, 1958 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 60 years are 3 sons, Thomas W. and Lela Kettlewell of Bloomery, West Virginia. Timothy W. and Brenda Kettlewell of Stephens City, Virginia, and Todd W. Kettlewell of Cross Junction, Virginia; 3 grandchildren, Wynter Kettlewell, Timothy and Lauren Kettlewell, and Kaleb Kettlewell; 4 great grandchildren, Cole, Jolie, Peyton and Truett; sister, Johanna K. Moss and many nieces and newhews. Butch was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Adda L. Kettlewell, Gertrude K. Seal, Rosemarie K. Bowen, Barbara K. Lineburg, Bertha K. Shiley; and 1 brother, John H. Kettlewell.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturday at the Omps Funeral Home Chapel, Amherst Street. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 am with Pastor John Lock officiating. Interment will be private.
The family of Butch would like to give a special thanks Dr. Kozlowski, Dad’s favorite doctor; Dr. Resta and the staff at Shenandoah Oncology; the staff at the Winchester Medical Center, especially Peter T. whom gave Dad excellent care; and Jennifer, Courtney and the rest of the staff at Five Star Home Health Care, and Nurse Kelly and the staff at Blue Ridge Hospice.
