Almira “Allie” Kipps
Almira “Allie” Leon Luttrell Kipps, 98, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Kipps was born on October 31,1912, in Siler, Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary “Mollie” E. Luttrell. She was a homemaker and a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church where she was Choir Mother and a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Mrs. Kipps was a member of the Pine Knots at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, the Jolly Crowd at Bethel Lutheran Church and the Home Demonstration Club in Winchester. She enjoyed working for the Mother’s Day Out Program at Market Street United Methodist Church and the Daycare at Braddock Street United Methodist Church. In addition, she loved trail rides, bluegrass music and traveling with Stewart.
Her husband, Allen Biller Kipps whom she married on October 7, 1939, in Berryville, Virginia, preceded her in death in August 1966.
She is also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Stewart Yeakley, in January 2009.
Surviving are her daughters, Kay Longerbeam and her husband, Gary, Judy Shade and her husband, Donnie; son, Thomas Allen Kipps all of Winchester, Virginia; five grandchildren, Julie DiMaio and husband, Nick, Alex Shade, Lindsay Longerbeam, Jenny Longerbeam and fiancé, T.J., and Katherine Kipps, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her daughter-in-law, Jane Kipps; three sisters, Opal Hillyard, Hilda Luttrell, Mary Athey and two brothers, Elmo Parkinson and Raymond Parkinson, preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend James Hewitt and Reverend Tony Layman officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Carter, Paul Hillyard, Jr., Philip Luttrell, Adrian Pullen, Alex Shade, Marvin Barb and Edward Athey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brook Chapman, Nick DiMaio and T.J. Rohrbaugh.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
