Allyson Ann Miles Simmers, 63, of Cross Junction, Virginia, died Monday, October 26, 2009, in Berryville, Virginia, following a long illness.
Mrs. Simmers was born in 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Burt Miles of Bridgeton, NJ and the late Jean W. Miles. She was an Operator Service Attendant with AT&T, retiring in 1996 after thirty years of service. Mrs. Simmers was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, and the Queen Mum of the Red Hot Flashes. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved to travel. Her favorite cities were Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, London, England and Dead Wood, South Dakota. She was an avid fan of the Rolling Stones and attended numerous concerts. She loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, taking pictures, and being a grandma. Mrs. Simmers was a graduate of Washington High School in Washington, Pennsylvania. Allyson enjoyed writing. She had a poem published as well as a story “ Renewal Of Faith” printed in the book “This We Believe”, essays from 2008 participants of the One Book, One Community project.
She married Edward A. Simmers, Sr. on January 30, 1998, in Winchester, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Wolford in 2000.
Surviving with her husband, is her daughter, Kiersten L. Walker of Winchester, Virginia; son, Paul C. Wolford and his wife Michelle of Bluemont, Virginia; two step-sons, Edward A. Simmers, Jr. and his wife, Deanna, of Gore, Virginia, George C. Simmers and his wife, Elizabeth, of Marion, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Linzie Wolford, Jordan Wolford, and Brandon Walker; five step grandchildren, Amanda, Tucker, Charles, Austin and William Simmers; three sisters, Deidre Hoffman of Hamilton, Virginia, Val Demarco of Vineland, New Jersey, Shelly Miles of Bridgeton, New Jersey and brother, Kyle Miles of Sacramento, California.
A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael Dobbins officiating. A. Memorial Reception will follow Mass at the church. Because of her love for traveling, Allyson requested that her ashes be spread over the heather in Scotland.
