Allen D. Barr, Jr., 53, of Frederick County, Virginia, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Barr was born in 1966 in Winchester, Virginia, son of the late Dorothy L. and Allen D. Barr, Sr. He was employed at NRADC as a Corrections Officer, achieving the rank of Captain, having served for 28 years. Mr. Barr was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, hiking, and being in the outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his children.

He married Patricia N. Fraber on August 1, 1992, in Winchester, Virginia.

Surviving with his wife, is his daughter, Cierra Barr and son, Cody Barr.

The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Per Allen’s request please dress in comfortable clothing for the visitation…no suits or ties. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Allen may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148.

Dearest Patty, Cody, and Cierra We are so sorry at the loss of Allen. There was no better friend or neighbor. He was a man of honor and dignity and will forever be in our family’s heart. It is said … Words will not wipe away your tears and hugs may not ease the pain but hold onto your memories because forever they will remain… Praying for you and your family during this difficult time.

It was my privilege to have the friendship and serve with Allen and his wife Patty. Allen was always professional, had a great sense of humor and was an outstanding mentor and respected by all. He cared about people and will definitely be missed by the NRADC and law enforcement family, community and Frederick County. I salute him and his family.

I'm so sad to hear about Allen's death. My thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends at this time.

My sincere condolences to your family. Allen was always a good friend to many of us in high school. Always had a smile on his face and a genuine kind trustworthy man. I'm truly sorry. My heart and prayers are with Patty and their children.

Allen was a great co-worker to me. Over his career he played a significant role in virtually every aspect of the jail to include designing and implementing the Community Corrections Division. I often sought his opinion and counsel because of this wealth of knowledge. His sense of humor was second to none. I was also very fortunate to workout with him the last five years before he retired. Without a doubt the best weightlifting partner I ever had or most likely ever will have. He was a beast in the gym. Fearless. That is how I will always remember him.

My deepest condolences to his family. Allen was a good friend, mentor and example. I am a better man for knowing him and he will be missed very much.

I am saddened by the loss of Allen Barr, Jr. However, I am glad that I had the privilege of knowing him for over 30 years. We were co-workers, but more importantly we were friends. My heart breaks for Patty, Cierra and Cody as they find the strength to endure the loss of their husband and Dad. Melanie and I will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
