Alfred E. DeHaven
Alfred (Al) Edward DeHaven, age 82, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. DeHaven was born in 1930, in Middletown, Virginia, the son of the late Normal H. and Inez Adams DeHaven. He retired in 1981 after 32 ½ years of service from Abex Corporation (Federal Mogul) as plant engineer in Salisbury, North Carolina. Most recently he operated D & S Enterprises. Al was an active member of Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church.
Al married Velda C. Stotler on October 26, 1974 in Frederick County, Virginia.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, he is survived by two sons, David E. DeHaven (Carol) and Steven A. DeHaven (Debbie); three daughters, Judy Sirbaugh (Lester), Janet Hagen (Ted), and Barbara Omps (Larry). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Zelda Miller and Alene Wine. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Wilber DeHaven and Elsworth DeHaven
God has truly blessed him with a family that he loved and that loved him, precious friends, and a wonderful earthly life. His request is that each of you would continue to be the “Light of God’s Love.”
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastors Gene Jones and Steve Ludwig. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Robbie DeHaven, Michael DeHaven, Mark DeHaven, Scott Hagen, Matt Omps, and Andy Omps.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel and after the service on Thursday at Shenandoah Valley Baptist Church gymnasium.
