Alan Joseph Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 9, 2024. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and church community at Boyce Baptist Church.
Born on August 18, 1959, in Bethesda, MD to Betty and Lewis Young. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sharon, and their four children, Robert Pfeiffer (Kristi) of Fairfax, VA, Deborah Matthews (Thomas) of Clear Brook, VA, Jennifer Stiles (Todd) of Clear Brook, VA, and Virginia Wallen (Kevin) of Wake Forest, NC and nine cherished grandchildren Tyler Matthews (Amber), Luke Matthews, Katelyn Matthews, Alayna Stiles, Noah Wallen, Carson Wallen, Amelia Wallen, Trent Pfeiffer, and Bryce Pfeiffer. Including four siblings, Paul Young (Sue), Kathi Coldren (Jeff), Jeff Young, and Linda Nysmith (Ken). His parents and a sister, Nikki Chamblee preceded him in death.
Alan worked as a Master Technician for 48 years, most recently at Sheehy Infiniti of Chantilly. He was also a mentor to many young mechanics. His true passion, however, was agriculture. At his farm in Boyce, VA, he raised Club Lambs for 4-H and FFA exhibitors and spent over 30 years volunteering with the Clarke County 4-H program. Alan was dedicated to helping youth in agriculture, often providing discounts, payment plans, or donating lambs to ensure they could participate.
A valued member of the Ruritan Club of Clarke County for 32 years. Alan also served as Chairman of the Swine Committee for 22 years at the Clarke County Fair and helped establish the Livestock Committee. He was known for his fairness, kindness, and unwavering support for the children in the program.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Horticulture Building at the Ruritan Fairgrounds in Berryville, VA. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the service following immediately afterward.

Alan’s selfless dedication to agricultural youth will leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
