You would have never wanted this outcome. The very thought of your own passing repulsed you beyond explanation, even though you were keenly aware of the inevitability and finality of this devastating event. I toggle between numbness and anger when processing your untimely demise. I fondly remember growing up with you and the fun we had "driving" the beds to Basseterre. I have a vivid recollection of you laughing at Ms.Gift when she routinely fell asleep while attempting to teach you the alphabet, c-a-t, and d-o-g. There are words and phrases that I would mention to you, even decades later, that would bring on a round of your raucous laughter because only the two of us knew the meaning of or the stories behind those words or phrases. Our culture did not then fully appreciate people with your challenges but you were fortunate to have a mother, who to her last conscious moment, saw you as her charge in life. To her, you were not lesser than her other children, and she went out of her way to ensure that you were included in every treat we shared. If there were visitors at mealtime, mom insisted that you bless the food. With reverence, your simple prayer was always, "Father, we thank thee for this food. Amen." We were lucky to have you as a brother. I find some comfort in the fact that others will have better quality lives because of you. I will never forget you.
