ADDISON LOUIS GIBBS JR was born on November 4, 1934 to the late Addison Louis Gibbs Sr and Mary Louise Sanford. Sonny, as he was affectionally called, accepted Christ at an early age joining the Merrifield Virginia First Baptist Church. In joining a Church in each community in which he resided, he attended Sunday Schools, Bible Studies, Prayer Meetings, Revivals, and other Church functions always seeking or inviting others to come.
Sonny religiously tithed and was conscious and obedient to the words of God. He was a Full-Time Christian, serving and glorifying God was a daily commitment. Sonny was a graduate of the Manassas Regional (Industrial Vocational High School).
His favorite classes were Biology and Auto Mechanics. He joined the District of Columbia National Guard and was sent to Fort Knox Kentucky for Training. Upon his return and based on his mechanical skills he became permanently employed in the National Guard until his ultimate retirement. During his working career, never one to be idle, he drove a High School Bus, owned and operated a Commuter Van and performed Lawn Services.
Sonny always respected and assisted the elderly, widowed, and those in need. He constantly visited family and friends both near and far, a love trait he acquired from his father. He also loved animals as evidenced by his dog “Snickles” ,who was a constant companion in all of his travels.
Sonny enjoyed singing, playing the harmonica, pitching horse shoes, riding bikes and motorcycles, but most of all working on cars and trucks.
