Ethel Lee Brendle Sandy, 76, of Frederick County, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Sandy was born in 1939, in Warren County, Virginia, the daughter of Gilmer and Martha Brendle. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Sandy attended Liberty Baptist Church and a former volunteer with Winchester Medical Center. Ethel loved gardening, cooking, shopping and animals. She loved life and lived it to the fullest overcoming many obstacles over the years.
She married Melvin Richard “Dicky” Sandy, Sr. on March 16, 1962, in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with her husband is her son, Melvin Richard “Rick” Sandy, Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Winchester; sister, Shirley Brendle Gardner of Whitacre, Virginia; and brother, Charles Brendle of Winchester.
She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Thelma Ann Brendle, Elizabeth Brendle Conard and three brothers, Gilmer “Jack” Brendle, Jr., William “Bill” Brendle and George Brendle, preceded her in death.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for her caregivers, doctors and friends that showed her so much love and affection especially over the last few months.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Shenandoah Memorial Park with Pastor Jackie Battles officiating.
