In many ways my father was the man that held the family together. Dad was very well-read and had a keen interest in history, travel, and politics.
As a little girl I thought he was the most handsome man I'd ever seen, sort of movie star handsome. He taught me how to dance the box step and I will also remember him singing Puff the Magic Dragon to me.
At some level you realize that your parents will eventually leave this world, but I don't think you are ever truly prepared for that eventuality regardless of the circumstances.
I love you Dad and I will miss you.
