Sally R. Humphrey
Sally Reed Humphrey, 72, of Winchester, VA, died Friday, July 22, 2011 at her residence.
Ms. Humphrey was born in 1939 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late Edward C. and Ruth M. Humphrey. She attended Central High School in Knoxville, TN. In 1959 she graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. After college, she married Jon F. Hollengreen of Waynesboro, PA and raised three daughters in Sterling, VA. Following a divorce, she later married William G. Biesecker of York, PA; they too divorced. Ms. Humphrey was employed for more than 15 years by Loudoun County, retiring from a position in the Office of Mapping in 2004.
Ms. Humphrey was deeply interested in the history and landscape of northern Virginia and provided many hours of volunteer and paid service at Belle Grove Plantation in Middletown, VA. She was also a skilled musician, both as a child and as an adult. She loved gardening and had been certified a master gardener. Finally, she was devoted to her pets and provided a loving home to many dogs and cats over the years.
Surviving Ms. Humphrey are three daughters, Laura Holden Hollengreen of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Morgal Hollengreen of Winchester, VA, and Amy Humphrey Hollengreen of Milford, NH; four grandchildren, Clare Ulmer, Thomas Ulmer, Hollen Knoell and Cora Knoell; and three brothers, Thomas Humphrey of Midlothian, VA, Lewis Humphrey of Vestavia, AL, and Porter Humphrey of Cary, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Belle Grove Plantation on Sunday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m.
