Richard “Petie” B. Haymaker, Sr.
Richard “Petie” B. Haymaker, Sr., age 81, of Winchester, VA, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living.
Mr. Haymaker was born in 1930, in Winchester, the son of the late Arthur Hunter and Emma Frances Haymaker. He retired from H.N. Funkhouser Co. in 1995 and was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Patricia Lou Frye Haymaker, and his two children, Richard B, Haymaker, Jr. and Judith L. Haymaker Stotler. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Michael B. Stotler and his wife Rebecca, Richard B. Haymaker, III and his wife, Ashley, Emily C. Haymaker, John Hunter Haymaker and two great grandchildren, Alisa Marie Stotler and Jonah Preston Stotler all of Winchester, VA.
Mr. Haymaker has four surviving sisters, Margaret H. Marlowe, Betty H. Carroll, Frances H. Fortune and Barbara H. Ward, along with many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers Frank Hunter Haymaker and John Thomas Haymaker.
Mr. Haymaker had an active and full life. In 1990 he was inducted in the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in Winchester and played Varsity Football, Basketball, Track, Wrestling and was voted most popular in his Senior Class at John Handley High School. He was a member of the Judges Athletic Association. He devoted over fifty years of his life selling Texaco Petroleum Products in the Winchester area and served as an Officer and Director of what is now H.N. Funkhouser & Co., as well as a member of the Northern Virginia Petroleum Association. After retirement, he came to pursue his favorite pastime of playing golf with his Wednesday Golfing Group and spending more time with his family. He was a Chartered Member of the Shawnee Lions Club and belonged to the Eagles. His love for his fellow man was displayed by his relationship with his family, his church and his many friends. He was an ethical man in business and his personal life.
A celebration of Life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church, 2077 North Frederick Pike, Winchester, Virginia, with Pastor Heidi David-Young , Pastor Dave Young and Pastor Russ Siler officiating, on Friday at Noon.
