Mary E. Whittle

        Mary Ellen (Wyatt) Whittle, 83, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in her home.

 

Mrs. Whittle was born in 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of the late John B. and Dolly Wyatt, Sr.  She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland.  Mrs. Whittle taught school for one year in Maryland and substituted in the Winchester City Schools, Frederick County Schools and Sacred Heart Academy in Winchester, Virginia.  She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years.  Mrs. Whittle served for many years as a volunteer with the Winchester Medical Center and was active in the Winchester Democratic Party.  Each year a scholarship is awarded in her honor to John H. Handley High School for her work in the Winchester Democratic Party. Mrs. Whittle loved being around her family. She was very involved with all of her sons and grandchildren’s activities.

 

She married Edward D. “Ted” Whittle on August 25, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Surviving with her husband, are sons, Michael D. Whittle (Debbie) of Strasburg, Virginia, Mark L. Whittle (Cindy) of Stephens City, Terry H. Whittle of Winchester; grandchildren, Michael S. Whittle (Cheryl), Jeffrey D. Whittle, Ryan E. Whittle, Kirk M. Whittle, Philip A. Whittle, Kelly A. Whittle and Catherine M. Whittle.

 

Her son, Philip S. Whittle; two sisters, Louise Davis, Katherine Wyatt and brother, John B. Wyatt, Jr., preceded her in death.

 

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

 

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 130 Keating Drive, Winchester, Virginia  22601 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.
