Marjorie Ann Duncan Glover, 82, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, September 8, 2013, in a local nursing facility.
Mrs. Glover was born in 1930, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Cletus William and Nina Lucille Duncan. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1948. In 1949 she became a part-time secretary for City Sergeant Gibson Baker, becoming full-time in 1950. In 1951, Mrs. Glover was appointed Deputy, the 1st female deputy in Virginia. She was later appointed Deputy Clerk for W. Erle Edwards, Judge of Frederick County Court, until her retirement in 1969. With her husband, she operated an antique shop on S. Cameron Street from 1976 until 1997.
Mrs. Glover was a former member and President of the Winchester Quota Club, honorary member of Hawthorne Garden Club, the Winchester Frederick County Historical Society, Kernstown Battlefield Association and Friends of the library. In addition she was a member of the Museum of Shenandoah Valley and a supporter of Shenandoah Summer Musical Theatre (SSMT). Mrs. Glover was a member of the Winchester Medical Center Auxiliary and a Red Cross Volunteer. Mrs. Glover was a member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church and Women’s Group.
Her husband, John Duell Glover, Jr., whom she married on June 21, 1969, in Winchester, Virginia, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her sister-in-law, Elizabeth P. Duncan of Winchester, nephews, Dr. Ken D. Shick, William Lawrence Duncan; nieces, Sandra S. Butler, Rebecca D. Bush; great nephews, Matthew Shick, Jonathan Shick, Spencer Shick, Neil Butler, Jr. and Alex Bush; great nieces, Carin Butler, Liza Coffman; great great nephews, Brooks Butler, Henry Coffman; and great great nieces, Audrey Shick and Ellie Coffman.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise D. Buncutter, Mildred D. Wine, Mae D. Shick and brother, E. William Duncan.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 6:00-7:30 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia with Pastor Alan Morrison and Reverend Joel Thornton officiating.
