Lawrence Edward Taylor of Winchester, VA, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Winchester after a long hard fought battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
He was born in 1950 in Stanardsville, VA, the son of the late Otis Greene Taylor and Alma Alice Shifflett Taylor. He was a graduate of William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, Class of 1968. He entered the Army in 1969 and served in Vietnam from 1970-1971 as a military policeman with the 716th MP Battalion, 18th MP Brigade. He was a lifelong member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Disabled American Veterans organizations. He was proud of his Blue Ridge Mountains heritage and enjoyed researching and reading how his family was relocated from their mountain homes to form the present-day Shenandoah National Park. He enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour Western Novels and playing church league softball. He had a successful career as a Utility Construction Engineering Inspector and served the Town of Leesburg citizens for 32 years as Utility Water Facilities Manager.
He married Diane Jenkins Taylor on March 2, 1973 at Grace Episcopal Church in Stanardsville. She was the daughter of the late Irvin Elwood Jenkins and Sadie Mae Nichols Jenkins.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Diane and two daughters, Amanda Dawn Taylor Clouse (Ryan), Alicia Diane Taylor both of Winchester, VA; two granddaughters, Marissa Taylor Clouse and Rebekah Alena Clouse; one grandson, Coleman Edward Taylor; two beloved brothers-in-law, Ronnie Wood Jenkins (Sherrie) and Gary Alan Jenkins (Chrissy); and cousin, Harrell (Bumpy) Cunningham.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Greene Taylor.
Lawrence was devoted to his Christian faith and enjoyed reading, memorizing verses, and living by God’s Holy Word. He was a member of Calvary Covenant Brethren Church for 25 years, serving on the church board, ministerial, building & grounds, ushering and finance committees.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Calvary Covenant Brethren Church on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11am officiated by Pastors Jonathan Martino and Charlie Estep, with a meal to follow at the church fellowship hall.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
