John W. Sarle, 66, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on February 13, 2026.
Born October 3, 1959, in Arlington, Virginia, he was the son of Charles and Jennifer Sarle, who preceded him in death.
John proudly served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1983, spending much of that time stationed in Alaska. Over the years, he built a life defined by hard work and experience. Most often, he worked as a mechanic — a “grease monkey,” as he liked to say — but his path also took him to an Alaskan fishing boat and on the road as a traveling vacuum salesman. Everywhere he went, he collected stories.
He loved motorcycles, and the family passion for race cars ran through his veins. Above all, John loved life. His laughter was unmistakable and contagious, often bringing him to tears. He showed his love through conversation, shared stories, and quiet pride in his children and grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, always making sure they were well cared for and deeply loved.
John is survived by his children: Bradley Reid; Craig Sarle; Jessica Sarle (Joseph); and Kirsten Sarle. He was a proud grandfather to Tessa Allen, Asher Allen, and Creighton Sarle, and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of a second granddaughter.
He is also survived by his siblings: Lisa Turner (Jeff); Tom Sarle (Annie); and Holly Ensogna (Paul).
John was rarely without a good story and a way to make you smile. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A visitation will be held for John on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12pm with a service to be conducted at 1pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant-Lamps UMC Cemetery.
