She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Delaino Mitchell. She is survived by her daughters, Kerry Trice (Kevin) and Jana Wallace (Dave), and her step-grandson, Jeremy Wallace.

Janet retired in 2000 from Fairfax County Public Schools after a dedicated career as a librarian and teacher. She found joy in her grand dogs, reading and spending time with family.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 3pm to 5pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be private in Quantico National Cemetery.
