James “Jim” Ray Allen, Sr., 81, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 17, 2025. He was born on March 22, 1943, in Buffalo, New York.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edith “Tina” O. Allen (Ashby), son, James “Bud” Allen, Jr. (Sabrena) of Strasburg, Virginia and daughter Mysty Dawn Brill (Rusty) of Winchester, Virginia.
Six grandchildren, Lauren Beth Allen, Nicole Alexis Crowder (Jed), Ryan Allen Rawlings (Shelly), Kasidy Dawn Ball (Dennis), Tyler Russell Brill, and Bryson Lee Brill,
Five great-grandchildren- Noah Crowder, Parker Crowder, Idabelle Crowder, Kai Brill, and Lynden Crowder.
His loyal companion, Bentley, who was loved and adored like his own child.
One surviving brother, John “Mike” William Allen. II of Batavia, New York.
Jim attended high school in Buffalo, NY before enlisting into the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, he was stationed in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honored to have served the country he loved for over eight years.
Jim worked at Ashworth Brothers of Winchester for over fifty years before retiring in 2018.
To say that Jim Allen was a kind and generous man would be an understatement. He loved his family more than anything else in the world. Anyone who was blessed to have known him would attest to this. Jim lived his life to the fullest and has left memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Jim enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, fishing, golf and playing cornhole. He was a member of the Winchester F.O.E. 824.
He was preceded in death by twin sons Dwayne and Darrell Allen, mother, Betty Jane Bogardus (McWilliams), father, John William Allen I, and a brother, Robert Paul Allen.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel in Winchester, Virginia. The family will receive visitors from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial service will be held in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pastor Todd Crowder will officiate the services.
The pallbearers will be Mitchell Shumaker, Jed Crowder, Ryan Rawlings, Dennis Ball, Tyler Brill and Bryson Brill. Noah Crowder is named as an honorary pallbearer.
