I’m so sorry that Jim was called home. He was always so nice to me and hanging out with Fay at a few of the re-enactments. There was always laughter and we always had a good time. Jim definitely knew his history, and the very intricate parts of it that many may not have known. I couldn’t believe that he and Fay both were artists. I wish he was still around, as I’m sure many of you do. I will sure miss him. God Bless You, Jim.

I only met Jim a couple of times at some living history programs, but he was always very passionate about talking about the Virginia Regiment and F&I history in general. He will definitely be missed by all who knew him and the reenactment community. May you rest in peace Jim.
Mayor Charles Harbaugh IV left a message on October 20, 2025:
I was very saddened to learn of Jim’s passing. I had the honor of reenacting the French & Indian War with him for over a decade and always admired his incredible knowledge and passion for history. Jim could speak for hours about the subject, and every conversation with him left you learning something new. He was a brilliant historian — well read, insightful, and deeply devoted to preserving the past. Beyond his remarkable intellect, Jim was a genuinely kind man and a true pleasure to be around. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Fay, and all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Jim was a wonderful co-worker and human. He always took the time to educate people who didn't know history, chess, or even politics. Even people who didn't agree with his views were treated with respect and were able to have a healthy debate. I know he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.
