John Thomas “Tom” Garner
John Thomas “Tom” Garner, 76, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, November 9, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Garner was born in 1936, in Beach City, Ohio, the son of the late Willis and Irene Garner. Mr. Garner was a graduate of Rhodes High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Class of 1954, and Illinois Institute of Technology, where he received a Mechanical Engineering Degree, Class of 1958. Tom was a Veteran having served eight years in the Marine Corps achieving the rank of Captain. He was an A4-Skyhawk pilot. Mr. Garner became a pilot with American Airlines, retiring in 1996, after 30 years of service.
Mr. Garner married Susan Maund on February 4, 1994, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kris Ryan of Harrietta, Michigan, Debbie Hayes, and husband, John, of Fort Myers, Florida, a son, William “Bill” Garner of Chicago, Illinois; one granddaughter, Karyl Sue Garner of Fort Myers, Florida and one sister, Barbara Wapperer of Saranac Lake, New York.
The family will have a Gathering of Remembrance for Tom on Friday, November 30, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home Amherst Chapel.
