Helen Myers

Helen Myers, 93, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Sunday, March 17.  Helen was born in Elk Creek, Nebraska, the daughter of second generation Czechoslovak immigrants Rudolph and Mary Kovanda.

At age sixteen she graduated high school and left her small town for the city of Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska, graduating four years later with a teaching degree. During her first year of college, she attended a university dance where she met and danced with Lynn Myers. They fell in love, married, and shared their lives for the next 65 years.  Lynn passed away in 2007.

Helen was a mother, homemaker, hay raker, tractor driver, bowler, golfer, skier, horseback rider, gardener, creator of amazing flowery landscapes, rock wall builder, singer, hiker, farmer, dancer, baseball fan, animal lover, and all around useful friendly person.  If a job needed to be done, she learned to do it.  She preferred outdoor tasks to indoor, always choosing weeding the garden over dusting the furniture. She believed in God, the good nature of people, and work. She was still stacking firewood at age 90. She smiled. And smiled.

As an army wife, she moved all over the United States, including Alaska, once completing three household moves in one year. At the end of Lynn’s military career, she and Lynn found a place to cherish, a rolling wooded farm with a creek flowing through it.  They stayed for more than forty years.

She leaves behind many people who loved her.  These include her valued friends; three daughters: Marynell Eyles (Walter) of Middlebrook, VA, Billie Myers (John Brumder) of Boulder, Co. and Sally Myers of Winchester; two grandchildren: Billy Eyles (Karen) of Millwood, Sally Goldfarb (Michael) of Franklin,TN; six great granddaughters: Amelia, Isabella, Allegra, Margo, Maya, Nora; sister-in-law Regina Sue Snidow and nephew Neal Snidow (Deb) Megalia, CA.

A memorial service and celebration of Helen’s life will be conducted Saturday, April 13^th, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Pastor Will White officiating.  Visit with the family at 10:00 AM. The service will be at 11:00.  Please wear colorful clothing if possible as Helen loved all the colors of spring. Interment will be private.
