Glynnell Little Headley

Glynnell Headley passed into eternity in the early hours of October 1, 2012. Born in Overton County, Tennessee in 1922 to Ed and Ruth Little, she was a sister to eleven siblings. She attended Berea College in Kentucky where she met and fell in love with Boyd G. Headley, Jr. Boyd and Glynnell returned to his home in Winchester, joining his father in building the family business, Headley’s Auctions, and began a family.

Glynnell was loved and respected by many friends and colleagues in Winchester. She was known for her generosity as well as her wide range of talents. In the auction business, she restored antiques, served as advertising agent, bookkeeper, appraiser and facilitator for consignments to be sold at auction. To family and friends she was considered a superb cook, elegant hostess, and genuine friend, offering help and encouragement whenever it was needed. She loved playing Bridge and was a director for the Dick Bowers Duplicate Bridge Club in Winchester. She was a mother of four, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of thirteen.

Raising her family on her farm, Long Green, her roles included snake catcher, indoor bird catcher, blue bird patron and the real caregiver for her family’s varied pets. Glynnell has been called the epitome of womanhood by her closest friends and was a truly beautiful woman on many levels. She displayed a great sense of style and abundant energy in everything she did. She was an accomplished artist in painting and decorating antique furnishings, reverse painting on glass and reproductions of Early American primitive portraits. As a member of the Winchester Little Theater she served as director, actress and facilitated set production. She served as docent at The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, was active in The Little Garden Club and a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She always had a positive attitude, inspiring all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Glynnell was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Headley Robinson, and her siblings, Dora, Georgia, Mattie, Amy and Arnold. She is survived by her children, Joe Little Headley, Kathy Rosanelle Headley Howey, Boyd G. Headley, III; eight grandchildren, Joe Headley, Jr., Gina Boyd Headley Wilson, Holly Glynn Headley Dudzic, Laura Glynn Robinson Wood, James Donald Robinson, Raymond Boyd Howey, Tara Annelle Howey McArdle, Arthur Martin Howey, III; thirteen great- grandchildren, and her siblings, Veda, Bernice, Johnnie, Bob, Bill, and Mike.

A celebration of Glynnell’s life will be held at her beloved Long Green on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to share their memories.

The family would like to thank Spring Arbor and Blue Ridge Hospice for providing compassionate care and excellent services that Glynnell came to depend on as her health declined in recent years. We are touched by the love and support offered by Glynnell’s many friends and family members. She continued to play Bridge during this time and that brought her great happiness.
