Georgia Hunter, aged 74, passed away on May 3rd, 2021. She was a resident of Winchester, Va.
Georgia was born on November 28, 1946, in Oakland, CA, to Regina and Frank Hunter. She attended Rippowam High School in Stamford, CT, and lived in many places over her life – Virginia, California, Florida.
At times car salesman, artist, house cleaner, transcriber, Georgia could figure anything out. She once got a job as a telephone switchboard operator, despite having no experience. On the first day, she just said “oh, this is different from the one I used before, can you show me how it works,” then picked it up immediately.
Georgia was a generous friend who would drive across the country to help you and your dogs escape a flood or spend days refurbishing your campground after a wind storm. She was an avid football fan, and she absolutely loved the beach, especially in Florida. Most of all, she loved animals; no stray cat she knew of went without a home. She had a big laugh and an exuberant personality – life was never dull around Georgia.
Georgia leaves behind her beloved cats Willie, Big Guy, Rocky, Fred, and Ginger, and a neighborhood full of birds and squirrels who will miss her. Plus her people family – sisters Karen Baker of MD and Julie Chalfant of MA, and her nieces, nephews and great-nieces. A joy later in her life was to be reconnected with her daughter Karen Devine, who had been given up for adoption as a baby, and to meet her grandsons Nick, Dylan, and Jake.
