Gary A. Debevec, 72, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, Virginia after a valiant fight with cancer.
Mr. Debevec was born in 1949, in Kane, Pennsylvania the son the late Naomi J. and Anthony Debevec. He was a graduate of Kane Area High School, Class of 1967 and the Lumber Grading School in Memphis, Tennessee. Mr. Debevec was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Debevec was a former employee of Roanoke Forest Products and retired from T&S Lumber in Atlanta, GA. He worked for Martins in Sunnyside, in the bread department and Plumley’s Lumber in Winchester, VA.
Mr. Debevec was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ridgway, PA and a member Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Winchester, VA. He was a former member of Ridgeway Moose Club and AHUG Executive Director in Ridgway, PA. Gary was an avid golfer, reader, Fox News fan and a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He married the love of his life, Regina “Jeannie” Marie Kucenski on December 12, 1970, at his home church, St. Leo’s Catholic Church, in Ridgway, PA.
Surviving with his wife is their daughter, Stacie Debevec Ashworth (Joshua); grandson, Joshua “J.T.” Ashworth, Jr. all of Midlothian, VA; sisters, Darlene Rutledge (Blayne) Casper, WY, Diana Debevec Punk of Pittsburgh, Pa and brother, John Debevec (Christy) of Kane, PA and his feline companion, Socks.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his canine companion, Scruffy and feline companions, Suki, Cuddles, Muffy and Kiki.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel.
