Edwin Stewart, 86, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Ed was born in 1937 in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Fred and Zella Stewart. He was a high school graduate and served our country in the United States Navy. Ed retired in 1988 as a representative for the state department in foreign services. After his retirement he helped his wife Laura start her own craft business and started his own business of building and selling computers. He loved photography, hunting, fishing and watching the Washington Redskins. During family gatherings he would always make sure to have a project that he made for him and his grandchildren to be able to work on and figure out together. Ed enjoyed playing the banjo and ragtime music and would play with his brothers and sisters. He wrote a book about his family that was titled “A Handshake Across Time”. Ed loved his wife and always enjoyed spending time with her, enjoying every moment of their 61 years together.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Mae, whom he married on September 16, 1961; daughters, Karen Jean Presgraves, Vickie Lynn Plum (Frank); sons, Edwin Allen Stewart (Elizabeth), Thomas Michael Stewart (Rick); grandchildren, Karen Marie (Kenneth), Wayne, Jr. (Adriana), Linda Jean, David Wayne, Steven Michael, Amber Suzanne, Cody Allen, Casie Lynn, Philip Edwin (Amanda), Eric Andrew (Heather) and Lauren Elizabeth; 11 great-grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren and brothers, Ted and Philip Stewart.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Joanne, Carloyn and Gladys and brothers, Ken, Dale and Ronnie.
A visitation will be held for Ed on Monday, December 11, 2023, at 12pm with a service to follow all held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
