Dorothy J. Smith

        Dorothy Jane Smith of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014.  Dorothy was born in 1923, in Westernport, MD, to Pansy Mae (Blackburn) Brennan and James T. Brennan.  She attended Bruce High School in Westernport, MD, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 23, 1944, after attending Hunter College in Bronx, NY.  Once receiving an Honorable Discharge for the U. S. Navy she married Lowell A. Smith on July 28, 1945, in Arlington, VA.  After marrying the love of her life, she returned to the Winchester area and attended Lord Fairfax Community College.

Dorothy was a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church where she had been an Elder, Deacon and President of the “Women of the Church”.

She is survived by three children, James L. Smith and his wife, Eleanor; Eugene B. Smith and his wife, Sarah; and Jayne S. Seymour and her husband, Andy.  Dorothy also had 8 grandchildren that she loved dearly, Shawna S. Brill, Corey Seymour, Kayla Smith, Drew Seymour, Kelsey Seymour, Laura Seymour, Ryan Seymour and Brennan Smith.  Mrs. Smith is also survived by 1 great grandchild, Sarah Elizabeth Brill.

Her family invites you to attend a “Celebration of Life” at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, on Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy specifically requested that donations be made to Blue Ridge hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.

Interment will be private at Malick Cemetery in Hoy, WV.
