D. Joan Huston, age 76, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 in Winchester Medical Center.
Joan was born in 1942 in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late Luther Lindsey and Alice E. O’Meara. She worked as a bookkeeper for Pepperidge Farms in Washington, D.C. and Harris Management in Winchester until her retirement. Joan was a member of the FOE Auxiliary 824, Winchester. Her favorite craft was crocheting afghans for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joan loved to travel, whether it was on a cruise with her husband, John, or visiting her sister in Colorado. She enjoyed traveling across country with her husband John in his tractor trailer. Joan was known as “Maw Maw” to her family and extended family. She was a Ritchie Fields follower and loved her word search puzzles.
Joan married John David Huston, Jr. on July 19, 1977. He preceded her in death in 2004.
Surviving members of her family include her daughters, Alice Marie “Bunny” Carroll of Sterling, Virginia, Jenny Lyn Butts (Gene) of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Sharon Arlene Kidd (Bobby) of Winchester, Virginia, and Kathy Jo Humphries of Edinburg, Virginia; a son, John Carlin Gibson (Amy) of Winchester, Virginia; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her step-father, Clarence T. O’Meara, her sister and brother-in-law, Lois Jean and Edward Brueggeman and her brother, Donald Earl Lindsey.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Omps, South Chapel with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating.
A covered dish reception at the Eagles Club outdoor pavilion, 700 Baker Lane, Winchester will follow the service.
