Charles K. Dunlap, 90, of Clear Brook, VA passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Charles was born in 1930 in DeHaven, VA, son of the late Archie Edward Dunlap and Myrtle Rogers Payne; stepson of the late Cecil Payne. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and United States Air Force, having served during the Korean conflict. Charles served in the Army National Guard, Winchester VA as well. He retired from Crown, Cork & Seal after 33 years of service, and was the third person the company hired when it opened its doors.
Known to everyone in the neighborhood as Mr. D, he enjoyed sitting on his deck, feeding the birds and squirrels. Charles loved tending to his flowers and watching his little neighborhood grow. He witnessed the small children grow into adults, ones he even babysat for. In the past he attended Rest United Methodist Church.
His wife of almost 58 years, Blanche Leona Dunlap, whom he married on December 16, 1950 preceded him in death in 2008.
Surviving is a daughter, Janay Susan Jacobs (Mark) of Atlanta, GA; sons, Eddie K. Dunlap (Josephine) of Inwood, WV, Gail Eugene “Gene” Dunlap (Karen) of Winchester, VA; stepson, Eldon Warrenfeltz (Debbie) of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren, Jeremy, Chad, David, Brenda, and Barbara; great-grandchildren, Karlee, Holly, and Brandon; great great-grandchildren, Caysinn, Cleo and one on the way, Scarlette Faye; sisters, Shirley Shifflett of Winchester, VA and Betty Lou Fitzwater of Clear Brook, VA.
Along with his parents, stepfather, and wife, Charles was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Swartz and a brother, Ralph Payne.
