Betty Lou Melton, 80, of Winchester, VA died Friday, September 4, 2015 at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Mrs. Melton was born in 1935, in Winchester, VA the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Mary B. Knighting. She was a homemaker and a member of Winchester Moose. Betty’s greatest passion was her family. She was a wonderful cook and was a good and loyal friend to those she knew. She was a member of Opequon Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are daughter, Deborah A. Dowd (Gavin); stepdaughter, Carrie Melton (Bill); sons, Robert “Bobby” A. McKinney, Michael T. McKinney (Tracey), Darryl G. Willis (Alicia); sisters, Kay Brill (Nevin) and Shirley Tomblin; grandchildren, Colleen, Katie, Gavin, Andrew, Bridget, Molly, Tyler, Christopher, David, and Amanda. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by husbands, Robert A. McKinney, Charles T. Willis, and William “Pete” Melton, and sisters, Patsy Knighting and Phyllis Whitlock.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor David Witt officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
