Zane Othello Kerns

Zane Othello Kerns, 78, of Frederick County, VA died Friday, February 6, 2015 in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Kerns was born in 1936 in Virginia, the son of the late Harry O. and Martha J. Kerns.  He was a veteran having served in the United States Army.  Mr. Kerns enjoyed farming and was a mechanic having worked for Buckley Lages and retiring from Highway Motors.

Mr. Kerns married Betty L. Puffinberger in 1994. 

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sampson (James) and Donna J. Kerns (Tim Mcpeak); sisters, Maxine Ritter, Wanda Whitacre and Norma Whetzel; grandchildren, Mary Puffinberger, Rachel Smith, Sarah Sampson, Bradley Sampson, Hannah Sampson, Jamie Sampson, Amber Milburn, and Samantha Kerns-Thompson; great grandchildren, Jonathan Fletcher, James Fletcher, Hope Puffinberger, Faith Puffinberger, Jimmy Puffinberger, and Jace Smith; he is also survived by his six nephews and two nieces.

Mr. Kerns was preceded in death by his first wife, Elanore M. Kerns and his grandson Timothy Allen Kerns.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the church at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Frederick County, VA.

Following the committal service at the cemetery all are welcome to a Reception at the Gainesboro Fire Hall.
