Boyce, VA – William Raymond Quinlan, 68, passed away on June 15, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center. William was a Sparta resident for 32 years before moving to Boyce, VA, six years ago.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Teresa (Rothwell) Quinlan; his daughter Josette (Quinlan) Keelor and her husband Ryan Keelor of Berryville, VA; his son Kevin Quinlan and wife Emily Quinlan of Frederick, MD; and two grandchildren, Cole and Owen Quinlan.

William was born in 1947 in Queens, N.Y., the son of Raymond and Madeline (Naused) Quinlan, William graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School and went on to attend Villanova University (1969), achieving a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. William joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 1969 and served faithfully until 1975, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant (EF-5). During his time in the USMC Reserves, he earned an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at New York University in 1974. William then went on to earn his CPA in 1977.
He was devoted to his family, volunteering generous amounts of time as a youth softball coach and youth basketball coach, and much time to his children’s bowling teams and the Sparta High School marching band. Throughout both of his children’s musical careers, spanning from elementary school through college, he rarely missed a single performance. He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame football and Villanova basketball. He was thrilled to witness his Villanova Wildcats clinch their second NCAA championship this past April. A great lover of history, William could always be found carrying more than one book about former presidents, the Revolutionary War or, his primary interest, the Civil War. He was active as an usher and lector at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Sparta for many years. After moving to Boyce, VA, he continued his love of gardening and carpentry.
William and Teresa moved from New York City to Lake Hiawatha, NJ, in 1977 before settling in Sparta in 1978. In 2010 they moved to Boyce, VA, to be closer to their children. William is to be interred at the Cool Spring Natural Cemetery at The Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Cross in Berryville, VA.
