William Lee “Bill” Sonner, Sr.
William Lee “Bill” Sonner, Sr., age 72, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Sonner was born in 1942 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Harvey Lee Sonner and Louise Mae Sonner. William was a veteran having served with the United States National Guard. He was a self-employed truck driver and retired after over 55 years of service. Bill was a life member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and forever remembered for his love of racing.
He married Irene Wooddell on August 14, 1965 in Front Royal, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Tina Marie Ruckman and her husband Larry of Rio, West Virginia; son, William Lee Sonner, Jr. of Winchester, Virginia; three grandchildren; and one great grand-child on the way, sisters; Helen Umbenhour of Winchester, Virginia and Linda Locke and her husband Bill of Winchester, Virginia, as well as his lifelong cousin and brother Randy Trenary and his wife Kathy of Winchester, Virginia.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at Shenandoah Memorial Park Chapel with Pastor Burl Charlton officiating. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum. Military honors will be afforded by V.F.W. Post 2123.
