William L. Perry
William Leonard Perry, age 88, of Winchester, Virginia, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, in Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center.
Mr. Perry was born in 1922, the son of the late William Cleveland and Minnie K. Perry. He was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1940. He was an insurance agent for Hansbrough and Carter and J. V. Arthur, retiring after 43 years of service. He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Directors of Old Dominion Bank and was a member of the Advisory Board of Jefferson National Bank. He was an excellent marksman during his service as Drill Sergeant in the United States Army.
He built a cabin on the Shenandoah River where he spent time boating, skiing, and fishing. He was an avid golfer and charter member of Carper’s Valley Golf Club.
He married Laura Helen Beaver on January 1, 1947, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, are his daughter, Judith Perry Hennessey and husband, David, of Woodbridge, Virginia; two grandchildren, Laura Beardsley and husband, Matthew of Oakland, California, and Matthew Hennessey of Woodbridge, Virginia; two great grandchildren, Joey and Matthew Beardsley of Oakland, California.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Dr. James A. Hewitt, III officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Hennessey, Matthew Hennessey, Terry Plank, Delbert “ Sonny” Sibert, Earl Foreman, and Andy Hershey.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
