William L. “Lindy” Clevenger
William L. “Lindy” Clevenger, 86, of Winchester, Virginia “made Page 2 of the Winchester Star” Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Clevenger was born in 1928, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late J.W. “Bill” and Dorothy Clevenger. He was a truck driver for most of his life, beginning at the age of 17. He drove for numerous trucking companies, including McLean, Hemingway and Novick’s, retiring from ABF some 25 years ago. He attended Highland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 29 and Izaak Walton League, and was a volunteer firefighter for Sarah Zane Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.
Mr. Clevenger married Betty Louise (Zebroski) Clevenger on April 6, 1947 in Winchester, VA.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Dennis Linden Clevenger (Katrina) of Winchester, VA and Ronald L. Clevenger (Kathy) of Middletown, VA; three grandchildren, Chad Clevenger (Ashley), Jessica Foltz (Sam) and John Linden Clevenger (Anne); two great grandchildren, with a third on the way, and a sister, Ann Drummond (John) of Winchester.
Mr. Clevenger was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Clevenger and Roger’s wife, Genevieve.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM with Chaplain Ken Patrick officiating. Interment will be private.
