William “Hink” Lewis, 91, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Rose Hill Golden LivingCenter.
Mr. Lewis was born in 1925 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Oscar and Genevieve Lewis. He graduated from John Handley High School, Class of 1947 and attended Shepherd University. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WWII. He retired from General Adjustment Bureau as a Claims Adjuster. Hink was a member of the Moose, Elks, and Eagles; was also inducted into the Hunter Maddex Hall of Fame in 1984 and was possibly the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame. He liked all sports and officiated sporting events for colleges and high schools in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland. Hink was an avid Redskins fan and enjoyed old Western movies. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that will be missed.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Hovermale Lewis; daughter, Kelly Rabin (David) of Cooper City, Florida; son, Richard “Rick” Lewis (Renee Doyle) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Richard and Taylor Louise Rabin of Orlando, Florida; Sean Marlowe of Hollywood, Florida; Cory Lewis (Tara) of Davie, Florida; and Kyle Lewis (Sorell) of Gainesville, Florida; and great grandchildren, Kayla Ferro, Quinton, Cameron, Willow, and Juniper Lewis.
Hink was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores Lewis Klein; son, Gary Lee Smith and grandson, Blayne William Lewis.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 11 a.m. All are invited for a time of fellowship after the service at the Lewis home, 224 Sheridan Avenue, Winchester, Virginia. Interment will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be Corey Lewis, Kyle Lewis, Richard Rabin, Rick Lewis, Joey Casada, J.D. Lawyer, and Kelly Lewis Rabin.
