William D. “Bill” Gower, 94 of Magnolia, AR, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Commonwealth Senior Living at Berryville.

Bill was born in 1929 in Elmo, AR, the son of the late, William and Cordelia Gower. He was a graduate of Dyess High School in Dyess, AR and went on to earn his Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Education from Arkansas State University at Jonesboro and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Bill served our country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force as SSGT and a member of the Military Honor Guard. He retired as a teacher from Magnolia High School and spent 40 years preaching in Columbia County, AR. Bill’s passions were his family and church.

He married Joy Mae Cox on July 15, 1948 in Dyess, AR, she preceded him in death on March 22, 2013.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Lisa Gower Montgomery (Ben) of Winchester, VA, Paula Gower Pierce of Junction City, AR; grandchildren, Jennifer Montgomery Lynch (Jeremy) Winchester, VA. Megan Montgomery Ryan (Greg) of Johnson City, TN; Benjamin Montgomery (Theresa) of Winchester, VA, Renee Williams Farag (Mark) of Bryant, AR, Charlie Honza of Junction City, AR; great-grandchildren, Corben, Madilyn and Olivia Lynch, Jazmine and Rosie Ryan, Sophia Merrill and Lilianna Honza and sister, Jimmie Catherine Rock of Arkadelphia, AR.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joy and sisters, Allene Brown and Nell Willings.

All services for Bill will be private.

My deepest condolences to the whole family. I thought very highly of Bill and Joy when I attended the Jackson Street church of Christ in Magnolia from 2005-2009 while a student at Southern Arkansas University. Bill and Joy loved God's word and wanted nothing but the truth taught. Earth's loss is Paradise's gain. Prayers for the family.

A great teacher and a great man, even if he did have me write 500 times " I will not chew gum in class". haha We would run into each other many times after graduation and I always enjoyed a good conversation with Mr. Gower. a friend since 1969. looking forward to seeing him again. Mr. Gowan was my favorite teacher in High School. He taught Shop in Magnolia HS and I learned alot under his instruction. He was an "old school teacher" passing on "old school instructions and values". I enjoyed every single minute talking to him both inside and outside the classroom. Sorry for your loss and may God be with your family in your time of grief.
