Ann, The service was beautiful. Everyone that spoke did a great job. I learned that Chuck was quite the athlete. Barry, Elizabeth and the granddaughter, I don't know how you did it. I admire you all. God be with you all in the days ahead. Love, Judy

Chuck and I have been friends since childhood having many good times together. Chuck is the reason that I am a fan of the Braves and Lakers because he was a fan of the Yankees and the Celtics. My thoughts and prayers are with you Ann and the entire Spaid family.

I have known Chuck all my adult life. Sheri and I have shared many years of vacations and travels with him and Ann. In recent years Chuck continued to do world-wide trips when his mobility was severely limited. He pushed himself to do these trips with Ann when many would have stayed home- a testament to his zest for life! Chuck loved to be by the ocean in the Outer Banks. Our 4 children grew up together and shared many years of beach vacations in Nags Head, Ocean Isle, and Holden Beach. I still can see our kids as toddlers playing on the beach and think of how they became accomplished adults with kids of their own. Chuck bought 2 beach houses in the OBX to be near the SAND, SUN, and SEA and continued to enjoy beach vacations for many years. Chuck's love of reading always amazed me. He read incessantly and always had a tall stack of books by his table side. Chuck and I graduated from UVA in the same year. We met through Ann and Sheri who were at other VA colleges. We both played UVA sports - I as a Baseball walk-on and Chuck as a Basketball walk-on. We both left with a great affinity for UVA sports which rubbed off on our sons who are still huge fans. Chuck continued to support UVA Athletics throughout his life. Possibly through his LDS influence, Chuck was a man of the Earth. At one point he had an acre or more of vegetables growing! His unique pet, a hybrid wolf ultimately disappeared back into nature which was a great loss to Chuck. As Chuck's mobility waned, he had many raised garden beds which were so prolific, they were able to can and freeze a tremendous amount of food. Since Ann, Chuck and Sheri knew each other from preschool on, we stayed connected throughout our lives and I am thankful for over 60 years of shared vacations, and reunions together. There are so many friends that are thinking of Chuck with a tear and a smile. Chuck- May the Angels carry your soul to its eternal resting place with no more pain and no more sorrow, but eternal joy and happiness. Mike Herrick
