Wayne W. Carbaugh
Wayne Winter Carbaugh, 66, of Winchester, Virginia, entered into the arms of his Savior on September 19, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Carbaugh was born in 1948, in Winchester, the son of the late Henry Jacob and Nora (Winter) Carbaugh. He graduated from James Wood High School in 1966, Shenandoah University in 1968 and graduated from James Madison University in 1970. He was the most outstanding offensive lineman on the James Wood football team in 1966, a team which won 19 games in a row. He continued to play football at Shenandoah and James Madison.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Carbaugh worked for Farm Credit, Abex and Harry Byrd, III orchards. He worked at Lord Fairfax Community College at the time of his death. Mr. Carbaugh was a founding member of Advent Lutheran Church.
All his life, Wayne was a servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a caregiver to his mother, his dad and his wife, Arlene, during her 3 year struggle with cancer. He had a great love for all his family. Wayne grew up on the family farm in Bartonsville, Virginia. Later in life, he developed a flower garden at his home, in which he took great pride and enjoyed so much. Wayne loved to sing and participated in the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Surviving are his brothers, sister and sisters-in law; Frederick (Sophie) of Oswego, Illinois, David of Winchester, Clayton (Brenda) of Stephens City, Nancy Carbaugh O’Rear of Woodstock.
Wayne was a dear uncle to Natalie Van Waning, Melissa Gutierrez, Mitzi Bible, Amy Mantz, Rebecca Carbaugh, Jonathan Gartner, Karen MacDonald, Matthew Pressel, Justin McConnaughey, Angela Frobish, Kevin McConnaughey and Donald Maul. He is also survived by great-nieces and great-nephews Lydia Bible, Jared Bible, Jaxon Bible, Alexandra Mantz, Camyrn Mantz, Tynda Mantz, Mason Van Waning, Kate Van Waning, Carolyn Gutierrez, John Henry Gutierrez, Jessica Lefers, Jennifer MacDonald, Tyce McConnaughey, Ross Pressel, Jeremy McConnaughey, Savannah Frobish and Lincoln McConnaughey.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2800 Millwood Pike (Rt. 50E), Winchester, VA, 22602 with The Reverend Noel Vold officiating.
Following the service, interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be, Reverend Richard Carbaugh, Joseph Carbaugh, William Carbaugh, Garry Brooks, Steve McConnaughey, Barry Orndorff, Dr. Roy Schwarz and Warden Jenkins.
