What a hell of a life you lived, Mr. Floyd (can I call you Walt now? No? OK, sorry Mr. Floyd). Deepest condolences to your entire family, especially Taeko, Lisa and Winston, who I knew best, and I know they all miss you terribly. I wish I had known you better, but childhood impressions of a complicated and serious man long ago were replaced by what I know to be an innate kindness and caring for others without thought for reciprocation. That left a lasting impact on a younger me and one that has echoed into the older version of me. Rest In Peace, Mr. Floyd,

Taeko-san. Walter had foresight choosing such a beautiful place in the ‘60s. I truly enjoyed our many conversations with him. Missing him will never go away but I think you can still communicate with him as you look at the hills from where you are. I hope I can take my son and his family to your place. He’ll be driving. Will see. We can dream. Until then.
