Walter Elsworth Rinehart, Jr., 79 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center.
Elsworth was born in 1945 in Keyser, WV, the son of the late Walter Elsworth Rinehart, Sr. and Geraldine Jane Rinehart. He graduated from West Virginia University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Elsworth served our country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army rising to the rank of Captain and receiving the Army Commendation Medal. He retired as State Court Auditor for the state of West Virginia. Elsworth was a former member of Grace UMC in Keyser and a current member of Opequon Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the VFW, the American Legion both in Keyser and White Poplar Hunt Club. Elsworth was a college football fan, especially WVU. He loved traveling the world with his wife, Mary Margaret, and they visited over 35 countries. His favorite was Paris, France.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret whom he married on August 27, 1966, son, Scott Rinehart (Patti) of Hudson, OH, daughter, Julie Elrick (John) of Winchester, VA; grandchildren, David Rinehart of Willoughby Hills, OH and Megan Rinehart of Steubenville, OH and Jeffrey Elrick and Dana Elrick both of Winchester, VA.
Along with his parents, Elsworth is preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Thompson.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Elsworth on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11am at Opequon Presbyterian Church followed by an ice cream social for family and friends.
