Walter E. Mackoul passed away on the 31st day of March, 2017, in Winchester, Virginia. Walter was born in 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was the son of Mitchell and Afifeh Mackoul. Walter graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, class of 1954. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville University and his Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law. Walter practiced law for over thirty years in Miami, Florida. He was a member of The Florida Bar and served for many years on the Clients Security Fund Committee helping persons who were injured by defalcating attorneys. He also served as President of The Attorneys Real Property Council in Dade County, Florida. He was an adjunct professor in real estate law at Florida International University in Miami for a number of years. Walter was licensed, and practiced, in all State Courts of Florida, United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, United States Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Walter was an avid fan of Miami Hurricanes football and Duke basketball, and loved hunting and fishing, especially with his lifelong friends, Richard Souviron and Chris Schirmer. Upon retiring, Walter began a new career, becoming a master carver of wildfowl. For a number of years, he taught beginning carvers the art of decoy carving. His carvings won numerous awards in many competitions, including the Ward World Wildfowl Competition in Ocean City, Maryland. Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacqueline B., his son Scott Mackoul (partner Michael Schmitz) of Washington, DC, his daughter Melissa Mackoul Jones (husband Cory Jones) and grandchildren Madison Ashley and Kyle Austin of Farmington, Minnesota. In addition, he is survived by his sister Renee Klein and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Victor Mackoul. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
