Mr. Partlow was born in 1929 in Little Washington, Virginia, the son of the late Lyle and Edith Partlow. He attended John Handley High School and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Sergeant and was a team leader of the Communications Battalion. Mr. Partlow retired as a night shift manager at A&P Grocery Store, was a mail courier for Partlow Insurance for 15 years, and was a part-time forklift operator for Hemmingway Trucking. He was a member of the Judges Athletic Association, member of United Grocery Workers Association and former member of Winchester Moose Lodge. Mr. Partlow enjoyed watching professional baseball, was an avid fan of the New York Yankees but very much disliked the Baltimore Orioles. He was also a fan of the Washington Redskins and enjoyed dancing with his late wife, Barbara. Mr. Partlow was of the Christian faith. A devoted loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed.
His wife, Barbara Jean Partlow, preceded him in death in 2006.
Surviving is a daughter, Terrie Griffin (Paul) of Manchester, New Hampshire; sons, Ronald Partlow (Rebecca) of Stephens City, Virginia; Jerry Partlow (Leslie Boyd) of Winchester, Virginia; Bill Partlow (Jackie) of Winchester, Virginia; Dave Partlow (Brenda) of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Partlow (Chris) of Winchester, Virginia; Brian Partlow (Courtney) of Leesburg, Virginia; Kristopher Partlow of Dallas, Texas; Kelli Kangas (Dustin) of Denver, Colorado; David Partlow of Blacksburg, Virginia; great grandchildren, Caroline, Elise, Andrew, Addison, Tyler, Liam, and Marcus; and sister, Charlotte Van Meter of Hedgesville, West Virginia.
Along with his parents and wife, Barbara, Mr. Partlow was preceded in death by grandchild, Rachel Partlow; sister, Alma Martin; and brother, Russell Partlow.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 7 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Brad Hill officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Winchester, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Michael Partlow, Brian Partlow, Kris Partlow, David Partlow, Charlie Catlett and Lewis Catlett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Walter may be made to Judges Athletic Association, P.O. Box 2213, Winchester, Virginia 22604 MEMO: Walter Partlow Fund.
