W. Elwood Hovermale
W. Elwood Hovermale, age 93, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 6th in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Hovermale was born in February 17, 1920, near Berkeley Springs, WV, the son of Theodore and Freda Hovermale. He was employed at Abex Corporation for 30 years when he retired in 1985. He served in the United States Army during World War II with the 4025th Signal Service Group in the South Philippines.
He was an active member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He was also a director of the Wesley Chapel Cemetery Association and a supporter of the Reynolds Store Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
Mr. Hovermale was married to Tennessee Crosen Hovermale for 54 years before her death on May 30, 2002. Three brothers, Charles Hovermale, Bennie Hovermale and David Hovermale are deceased. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 9, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend James Markle officiating. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hector Robertson, Ray Frantz, Jamie Pendleton, Charles Mayes, Georgia Crosen, Jr., Wayne Crosen, Gladstone Crosen and Terry Crosen.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home, on Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM.
