Virginia L. Gorski
Virginia Lee (Volrath) Gorski, 78, of Frederick County, VA died Thursday, September 24, 2015 in Inova Fairfax Hospital, with her loving husband and daughter by her side.
Mrs. Gorski was born in 1937 in Burnsville, NC, the daughter of the late Ralph W. and Mary G. Tilson. After graduating high school she earned her Bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University. Mrs. Gorski began her professional career as an elementary teacher in the Arlington County Public Schools. After raising her family and continuing her teaching career for several years, she returned to graduate school for her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from Virginia Tech. She then moved to her role as a counselor within the Fairfax County School system, where she worked until her retirement in 1995.
Virginia had a great love of classical music. She was a naturally gifted musician and excelled at piano from a young age. As an active church member wherever she lived, she faithfully honored God by sharing her talents as a pianist, organist, and choral soprano. Many of these years were spent with the Chancel Choir of Fairfax United Methodist Church.
Virginia married John “Jack” E. Gorski on June 21, 1994 at Lake Anna, VA where they lived for many happy years enjoying sailing, birding, creating wildlife habitat and serving as Coast Guard Auxiliary Members. Virginia and Jack were also frequent participants with Elderhostel, traveling extensively throughout most of the US. About five years ago they moved to Lake Frederick where Virginia enjoyed making many wonderful friends, being involved with her bookclub and her prayer group. She had been previously married to Louis R. Volrath in Asheville, NC.
She attended Macedonia United Methodist Church in Stephens City, VA.
Surviving with her husband are son, Gregory Ray Volrath, Knoxville, TN; daughter, Linda Lee Volrath Parrish (Steven), Stephens City, VA; step-son, Edward P. Gorski (Janet), Moneta, VA; step-grandchild, Katrina Gorski Garland (Tim), Yelm, WA; four great grandchildren; step-daughter, Barbara A. Gorski (Steve Aamodt), Burnsville, MN; sisters, Francis Tilson and Evelyn Tilson Rudeen; and nephews, Glenn Rudeen, David and Danny Pyatt.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 2pm at Macedonia United Methodist Church, 1941 Macedonia Church Road, White Post, Virginia.
