Virginia Fogle Gaunt
Virginia Fogle Gaunt of Winchester, Virginia, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in the Inpatient Center of Blue Ridge Hospice.
Mrs. Gaunt was born in 1920, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Claude and Odie Newcome Fogle. Virginia graduated from Handley High School and retired from Winchester Medical Center after thirty-eight years of service. Virginia was a member of the Braddock Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Civic League.
Volunteering was a life-long commitment for Virginia. She began volunteering in high school, rolling bandages for the Red Cross and addressing envelopes for the United Way. She continued her volunteer service at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, Kids Voting, and, for the past fourteen years, remained an active volunteer with Winchester Medical Center and Blue Ridge Hospice, where she was the recipient of the Founder’s Award in 2001. Virginia was also nominated in 2012 for the National Salute to Senior Service Award and was highlighted in the Northern Virginia Daily as one of our outstanding community volunteers.
Virginia was the wife of Allen W. Gaunt who preceded her in death on December 8, 1993. Her sister Fern Brown predeceased her. She is survived by cousins Kathryn Sheirik of Richmond, VA, Virginia Newcomb, Vaughan Newcomb, Frances Eagle and niece Dr. Mary Marshall Gaunt Miller of Savannah, GA.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Kirk Nave officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will be held at Braddock Street United Methodist Church after Internment.
Pallbearers will be John Ricketts, Carlton Ricketts, Tim Marshall, Ernie Carnevale, Clark Sager and Frank Conner.
