Thelma Christana Pope, 90, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Hilltop Inspirit Senior Living. Thelma Christana Pope, 90, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at Hilltop Inspirit Senior Living.
Mrs. Pope was born in 1927 in Arlington, Virginia, the daughter of the late Glyndon and Bertha Foltz. She graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington and was co-owner of Pope’s Variety Store & Crafty Cupboard in Winchester until 1999. Mrs. Pope loved making crafts for family and friends and was a past Scout Leader. She was an avid Redskins fan and loved watching NASCAR.
Her husband, Leslie Osborne Pope, whom she married on November 29, 1947 in Arlington, Virginia preceded her in death.
Surviving is a daughter, Sharon Smith (Larry) of Bunker Hill, West Virginia; grandchildren, Scott Plasters (Jackie) of Cross Junction, Virginia, Sandra Wilt (Daniel) of Linden, Virginia, Kristie Hadley (Keith) of Hedgesville, West Virginia, Michael Smith (Angie) of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, Tara Ortiz (Raul) of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, and James Bittinger (Samantha) of Texas; twenty-one great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren; sisters, Aletha F. Watson of Winchester, Virginia, Irene V. Davis of Blue Ridge, Georgia, and Barbara C. Rakes of Locust Grove, Virginia; brothers, Earl L. Foltz of Sterling, Virginia and Gary F. Foltz of Lansdowne, Virginia; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and dear friends.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Arvilla E. Herrell and brothers, Elwood P. and Leonard C. Foltz.
A visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 11 am with Reverend Ken Patrick officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
