Sylvia Triplett. Desko, 88, of Winchester, Virginia, formerly of Washington, D.C., passed away on Friday, January 20, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Desko was born in 1923, in Winchester, the youngest daughter of the late Walter A. and Mabel Triplett. She was a graduate of Handley High School, Class of 1943. She married Theodore James Desko on June 15, 1946, in Washington D.C. at Saint Matthew’s Cathedral. Mr. Desko preceded her in death on February 11, 2005. Mrs. Desko was an Administrative Assistant for the American Red Cross at the National Headquarters in Washington DC. She and her husband lived in Washington D.C. until spring of 2001, at which time they moved to Winchester.
Having no children of their own, they adopted feline friends, Kittykat, Blondie, Bam-Bam and Blackie. Mrs. Desko generously supported numerous animal shelters and adoption centers. She and her husband, Ted, were grateful for the kindness of their caring neighbors both in Washington, D.C. and Winchester.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews including Sandra M. Widell and her husband, Richard, Judy M. Gaines and husband, Robert, James M. Morrison and wife, Jo Ann, Donald Shade and wife, Linda, all of Winchester, Joan M. Aylor and husband, Robert, of Front Royal, Peter Long and wife, Marty, of Ashburn, Virginia, Gerald Long and wife, Shirley, of Jefferson, Maryland and Mary Scott and husband, Harold, of Seattle, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Kenneth Triplett, Vivian Shade, Hilda M. Dove and Claude Triplett.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, at Opequon Presbyterian Church, Memorial Sanctuary, with Reverend David Witt officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 4:00-6:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
