Svend V. Jensen, age 78, of Stephens City, Virginia, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Soeborg, Denmark to the late Gunner and Ella Jensen. In 1966, he arrived in the United States and met Else C. Jensen, who he married in 1970. A master auto mechanic, Svend owned and operated SVJ Foreign Car Service in Herndon, Virginia which later moved to Sterling under the new name of Ashgrove Foreign Car Service. He operated the business for 25 years until his retirement in 2002, while living in Oakton. Upon his retirement and move to Stephens City, Svend enjoyed monitoring the financial world and traveling, especially by cruise ship. He was a lifelong member of the Danish Club of Washington, D.C. and the Danish Seaman’s Church.
Svend is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Else; their son, Glen Jensen and his wife Melissa Jean of Purcellville; their daughter Helen Magnotti and her husband James of Berryville; and their daughter Melissa Bishop and her husband John in New Hampshire. Svend is also survived by his five, beloved grandchildren, Morgan, Sophia and Noel, along with Anthony and Andrew.
In addition to his parents, Svend was also predeceased by two sisters in Denmark, Vita and Gerda. He is also survived by sisters Bodil, Ingelise and Dorte, along with brothers Zigfred and Ove, all of Denmark and Thorkild and his wife, Mary Ann, of Annapolis.

A memorial service to celebrate Svend’s life will be held at a later date.
