Susan W. Carter
Susan Wynne Carter slipped quietly from this earth on Monday, January 21, 2013, after a courageous and valiant battle with complications associated with cancer.
Susan smiled always. If she met you on the street, in a parking lot, or in a store or restaurant, she always smiled and greeted you as you passed and if you paused for just a moment, she no doubt would begin to tell you a funny story or in some way make you smile, too. She truly never met a stranger. She could talk to a tree. She lit up whatever space she occupied with a burst of bright sunshine.
Susan will be incredibly missed by her friends and family. She is survived by her adoring husband and comedic straight-man of 50 years, Walter and her loving sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Marci Carter of Nashville, TN, their children, Harrison and Katherine, and Adam and Wendy Carter of Gore, VA.
She loved, nurtured and protected her family throughout her life as a lioness might. She was fiercely loyal to all she loved. Susan stood firmly beside her husband, Walt, and always supported him in all their business and sports activities. She was active in politics for a time and faithfully served her church family at Sherando Presbyterian Church as an Elder.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, in 1943, she graduated from Warwick High School in 1961. She and Walt were married in 1962 and resided in Virginia Beach, Virginia, until 1998 when they moved to the Winchester, Virginia area.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Sherando Presbyterian Church with reverend Tim Arnold officiating. Inurnment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601 or to Sherando Presbyterian Church, 751 Fairfax Pike, Stephens City, VA 22655.
