Stephen E. Zatkalik

Stephen Emil Zatkalik, 90, of Frederick County, VA, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, in Winchester, VA.

Mr. Zatkalik was born in 1923 in Bridgeport, CT, the son of the late Stephen and Emily M. Zatkalik.  He attended Fairfield High School and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA.   Mr. Zatkalik was a veteran having served in the 9^th Army Air Force during WWII in England and France, achieving the rank of Camp Corporal.  He was a Tool and Dye Maker with Schick Safety Razor Division of Warner-Lambert, Milford, CT, retiring in 1988.  His interests were many which included singing in the church choir, the Sports Car Club of America, Connecticut Foreign Four Car Club; a member of the Elks Lodge 2378 in Englewood, FL, as well as the VFW Post 10059 in Trumbull, CT, and Disabled American Veterans in Sarasota, FL.

Mr. Zatkalik married Evelyn Jean Auth on October 13, 1951 in Bridgeport, CT.  They met while singing in the church choir and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Surviving with his wife are daughters, Nancy Smith and husband, Harrison, of Round Hill, VA and Judi Hennessey of Lexington Park, MD; grandchildren, Carl L. Koehler, III and Stephen J. Koehler of Round Hill, VA; step-grandchildren, Jason D. Smith and wife, April, of Jefferson, MD, Matthew H. Smith of Shippensburg, PA, and Lisa C. Smith of Round Hill, VA; step-great granddaughter, Jayla C. Smith.

Mr. Zatkalik was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel W. Zatkalik.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2800 Millwood Pike, Winchester, VA,  with Pastor Craig Crumm officiating.
